We have a quilt top!

Those that have been following my blog for a while would know that I've been making my son a quilt for a long time now.

You can see my son checking out the fabric way back in 2010 in this post. And some sample blocks at the end of this post. I've been ever so slowly working on it. I'm not sure why it is taking sooooooo long. I aimed to complete it for Christmas 2010, then his birthday 2011, then Christmas 2011. Wow! That's pretty bad. So now, I WILL finish it for his 5th Birthday, which gives me about a week. Today is basting day. I'll straight-line quilt it with my new walking foot. Hope the machine (and I) can handle it!

Any quilting suggestions? And what type of thread do you use for machine, straight-line quilting?

  1. It looks really good. Last time I did straight line quilting I used superior thread - so fine. It turned out really well. No breakage or anything.

  2. What about straight line quilting it with vertical lines about 1cm apart? I've been seeing that done in the Modern Quilt Guild fb page a lot lately & really love how cool it looks!

    Love the fabrics & design:)

  3. Gutterman 100% poly all-purpose is my preference. I don't have a lot of experience but I've never had a problem and I've seen it suggested elsewhere for machine quilting.

  4. For machine quilting recently I have been using Guttermann machine embroidery variegated threads. Machine embroidery threads have a lovely sheen to them and the variegated colours are good for multi-coloured quilts. If you've already started quilting I hope it is going really well and look forward to seeing the big reveal soon!
